As our user base slowly grows, it’s getting harder and harder to keep track of events like receiving a comment on a game of yours or a reply to a comment you’ve made yourself. This feature should help with that.
Events such as comments are now logged, and they’re organized in a way that makes it much easier to see what’s going on. Just click on the new “Events” button on the navigation bar at the top, and you’ll see a list of the most recent events for the whole site. Say hello to new members as they join, get an idea of what’s becoming more popular, and join in yourself.
But that’s not all!
When somebody comments on a game or a blog of yours, you’ll get a handy notification next to your name in the navigation bar at the top of the site. Click that to see a list of notifications pertaining to you, and then click any notification to go directly to that event.
Similarly, you also receive a notification when somebody replies to a comment you’ve made on somebody else’s game, blog, profile, etc. These are organized in a separate “Subscriptions” list below your notifications list.
Down the road I plan on giving users more control over their notification settings, and I think having an opt-in email notification would be cool. This is a pretty huge update, so I’m sure I missed something cataclysmic, but I wanted to get this out there before Ludum Dare next weekend. Let me know if you see anything weird or buggy, or if you have any suggestions on how things should look!
Yeah, the forums do stand out a bit... but they're not too bad. And most of what I would forum about, I can now 'blog' about (asking for help with a problem, talking about a game, etc.), so perhaps the forums aren't even needed? Maybe a simpler blog list would be easier?
There are a couple things I'm thinking about for the mid-term future, and that's one of them. That's related to a broader idea of completely revamping the forums- right now the forum is a completely separate entity using third party software, so it's pretty hard to tie it in with the rest of the site. I might end up completely redoing the forums, and PMs might be a part of that. That's a pretty hefty project though, so it might have to wait until my winter break from school.

Unpublished games do not show up in the list of general events.
But if you do give out the url of an unpublished game to somebody, you will get notifications for any comments the game receives - and those commentors will get notifications when you reply.
Nice one. I presume unpublished games (and their comments) don't appear in the events?
