I decided yesterday at 1:30 pm that I would practice for the next Ludum Dare gamejam (#24). The only 'jam' I had competed in was miniLD 36, and that had the lax deadline of a week. So, I gave myself a challenge. I wanted to have a working game by 3:00pm. That's an hour and a half.
I would have done it too, if that was actually my deadline. But, I just wanted a basic prototype by that time; I was still planning on expanding on it for the next 24 hours. So, while I could have made something simple, I was planning ahead for my grand aspirations for the game, and started on an Entity system. I had one done within the time, and I had some things happening on-screen. But there was no user input, no 'player', so it wasn't a game. I failed.
I loved the pressure of the deadline. The excitement, the adrenaline...
So, about an hour later I had a game, of sorts. I kept working until 8 pm, with a break for food, and I picked it up this morning at 11:30. I worked until 1:30 on the dot. That makes this a game made in 8 hours.
Boo-yah. I'm very proud of it.
It has its problems. The sprites of many of the enemies are messed up, with double-planes and half-planes. But I doubt I'll fix them. My time is up.
I had a whale of a time, and can't wait till Ludum Dare. I'm definately going to do a few more practice mini-jams.
I won't spam the site with my creations. I reckon I'll leave them unlisted, and just tweet about them.
Damn, I really need a homepage...
Wish me luck with my jamming!
