Hey Static-Void-Game-ians (okay we need a better nickname)
As you might notice, I’ve been making some updates to the site’s look and feel based on some great constructive criticism from Mike Kasprzak and our very own iandioch. I am definitely not a web developer, so it’s been a process of figuring out what works and what doesn’t work- I’d much rather be writing my own games!
I’m going to continue making updates to the site, but I think it’s at a mature enough point now that I can sort-of “officially” declare it as ready for public use instead of the beta state it’s been in until now.
What that actually means is that I’m going to shift my focus from adding features and instead work on adding more tutorials and recruiting more users. So if you’re a new visitor here, welcome!
Thanks for the feedback. My thinking with that was to give each game a little more room so people gave each game a little more thought. I'm planning on implementing something like what you describe, maybe filtered by tag with action games in one box, experimental games in another, etc. First we need more people to use more tags! Actually people have been great about using the tags so far, I'm pretty happy with them. We just need to get more games, and that's been happening too. Exciting times!
I like that you update the site, but the new play page is a step in the wrong direction in my opinion. When I wanted to play a game on staticvoidgames, I used to pick a game like this:
No, no no, that one might be interesting, no, no ,no, no, maybe, no, no, no, Hey I'm gonna play that one!
Now, it goes like this:
No, no, <scrolls down>, no, no, <scrolls down>, maybe this one, <clicks next page>, no, no, <scrolls down>, no, no, <scrols down> ect.
When I'm choosing a game, I don't care about in what language it's made and what the keywords are. I only need a short description an icon and maybe if I can play it as an applet or not. Those other things are interesting too, but only if I am interested in that game. With every game taking up so much space, it takes longer to navigate. I think it would be better if every game just shows up like on the front page, and there are a lot of them on one page. That's also how sites like newgrounds.com or armorgames.com show their games.
Anyway, success and keep up the good work!
Encase anyone wants one, I recently made a picture that can be used as a forum signature that is compatable with many sites. If you want a smaller version just ask me at my site: http://bigbass1997.info.tm/wordpress/?page_id=136.
Here is the direct URL for the picture: http://i.imgur.com/Yd1NH.png
Depending on how the forum is setup the code below should be all you need to post the picture as ur signature and have it link to StaticVoidGames: http://pastebin.com/0EFAVqyj
